Mexican-American bassoonist Abigail Lopez serves as Artistic Operations Coordinator for Queen City Chamber Music (QCCM), where she helps shape and support the organization’s artistic programming and initiatives. Through her work with QCCM, she is committed to creating engaging chamber music experiences that foster connection, accessibility, and artistic collaboration within Charlotte’s growing cultural landscape.

Abigail currently serves as the Assistant Principal Bassoon in the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and is completing her Masters degree at the Yale School of Music. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Drew Pattison.

As an orchestral musician, Abigail has performed with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and Toledo Symphony Orchestra. She has participated in renowned summer festivals including the Tanglewood Music Center and the Music Academy of the West. Internationally, she appeared in the Shostakovich Festival in Leipzig, Germany, performing alongside musicians from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester. Additionally she has performed at the Bang on a Can Long Play Festival with the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble.

As a soloist, Abigail has received top prizes in the IDRS Norma Hooks Young Artist Competition and the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition.

A proud alumna of the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative (CMPI), Abigail is dedicated to expanding access and representation within classical music. Drawing from her own experiences as a first generation student, she is passionate about supporting young artists through mentorship, education, and increased access to musical resources and opportunities.
